NEW YORK – Jason Richardson scored 24 points to lead the Golden State Warriors over New York 83-81 Sunday, keeping Larry Brown and the Knicks winless.

Golden State guard Baron Davis returned to the starting lineup after missing Friday’s loss to Utah with a strained hamstring. He had 16 points and nine assists. Troy Murphy added 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Warriors (2-1).

Stephon Marbury led New York (0-3) with 15 points and six assists. Channing Frye added 12 points and Eddy Curry and Trevor Ariza each had 11.

With Golden State trailing 74-73 with 5:46 left in the game, Richardson hit a 3-pointer as the shot clock expired to give the Warriors the lead for good. Davis added a layup to give Golden State a 78-74 lead.

He and Richardson combined to hit five of eight free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.

Quentin Richardson was scoreless for New York until the final minute, when he hit a layup and jumper at the buzzer.

Desperate for a win, Brown tinkered with the New York lineup, playing rookies David Lee, Frye and Nate Robinson together and it seemed to work, sparking the Knicks as they rallied from an 11-point deficit. Lee had eight points and 10 rebounds and was constantly hustling to keep balls alive. Davis was only 5-for-17 from the field, but helped Golden State build a 46-39 halftime lead by hitting three 3-pointers.

Marbury had a tough first half and didn’t hit his first shot until 5:53 left in the second quarter.

Frye kept the Knicks in the first half with 10 points.

The Warriors led 24-20 after the first quarter as Richardson had 10 points and Murphy had 8.

Notes: New York will begin a six-game road trip on Wednesday in Portland. The Knicks play 13 of their first 19 games on the road. … The Warriors have scored more than 100 points in 18 of their last 21 regular-season games.
