BOSTON (AP) – Ricky Davis made a jumper as time expired, and Paul Pierce scored 29 points as the Boston Celtics overcame an 18-point deficit to beat the Memphis Grizzlies 99-98 Wednesday night.

After Eddie Jones’ jumper gave the Grizzlies a one-point lead with 13 seconds remaining, Pierce was double-teamed as he drove baseline and passed to Davis, who was wide open at the foul line.

The Celtics lost their previous home game when Detroit’s Richard Hamilton hit a shot at the buzzer.

Davis finished with 18 points and Mark Blount added 17 for the Celtics, who were 7-for-9 from 3-point range.

Jones led the Grizzlies with 20 points and reserve Bobby Jackson had 16.

Jones had a dunk and consecutive 3-pointers to cap a 23-6 run and give the Grizzlies a 51-33 lead late in the second quarter.

After narrowing the gap to 12 at the half, the Celtics rallied to tie it at 69 with 2:23 left in the third after a 7-0 run, including 3-pointers by Raef LaFrentz and Pierce.

There were five lead changes in the last 1:25 and Memphis missed several opportunities from the foul line. The Grizzlies made only 12 of 26 free throws.

Pierce added eight assists, seven rebounds and three steals for Boston.

The Grizzlies (3-2) had their three-game winning streak snapped and missed a chance to tie their best start in franchise history.

Memphis shot 10-for-23 from beyond the arc and is 39-for-80 over the last four games.
