LEWISTON – The Maine Educational Opportunity Center will hold free “Essentials of College Planning” workshop at three Lewiston locations. Adviser Christy Le will hold the workshops from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14, at the B Street Community Center, 269 Bates St.; 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, at the Lewiston CareerCenter, 5 Mollison Way; and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, at USM Lewiston/Auburn Campus, 51 Westminster St.
Unlike student financial aid programs, which help students overcome financial barriers to higher education, the Maine Educational Opportunity Center has been providing support services to help students from low income and working families enter college since 1991.
The center helps adult students to overcome class, social, academic and cultural barriers to higher education. Services include assistance in choosing a college, tutoring, personal and financial counseling, career counseling, assistance in applying to college, workplace and college visits and assistance in applying for financial aid.
