SOMERVILLE, Mass. – Kim Harrington one-timed a Sarah Callaghan crossing pass into the Bates net giving Tufts a 1-0 lead and proved to be the eventual game-winning goal as Tufts downed Bates 1-0 to advance to the NCAA Tournament Sectionals.

Annie Ross stonewalled the Bobcats, and finished the game with 7 saves. Nini Spalding was in net for Bates and finished the game with 4 saves.

Kim Alexander led Bates offensively with 3 shots on the tough Jumbo’s keeper. Bates finishes the season at 14-4-1 and as NESCAC champions.

Field hockey
Bowdoin 5, Springfield 0

BRUNSWICK – Burgess Lepage scored the first goal of the game and assisted on the second as Bowdoin defeated Springfield 5-0 in the third-round of the NCAA Div. III Tournament.

LePage redirected a cross from Abby Daley into the back of the net, giving the Polar Bears a 1-0 lead in the first half. Lepage then found an open Lindsay McNamara who increased the lead to 2-0 moments later, which is where the score stayed into the half.

Taryn King added a third goal and teammate Hillary Hoffman netted two in the final 25 minutes to close out the scoring on the afternoon.

For Bowdoin Kate Leonard has not allowed a goal in her last 322 minutes of play and made nine saves Sunday.

Bowdoin will take on Messiah in their first-ever NCAA Semifinal appearance on Friday.

Men’s basketball
CMCC 74, Mt.Allison 63

FORT KENT – Kaleb Violette led all scorers with 17 points and hauled down 13 rebounds for CMCC as they defeated Mt.Allison 74-63 in the Bengal Tip-off Classic Sunday.

Reath Deng added 12 points for the Mustangs.
