After what had to have been thousands of words about anti-discrimination by the editorial writer of the Sun Journal over the last several months, was he suffering from writer’s cramp on the editorial page in honor of our veterans on Veterans Day that he could muster only 111 words?

Had it not been for the veterans of this nation, Hitler’s gas chambers would have been constructed here, too, and we all know who would have gone into them along with the Jewish people.

When communism and its lethal doctrines of humanism, conformity and gulags raised their “red” heads, who filled the void in Europe, Korea and, yes, Vietnam? Our veterans.

When a dictatorial juggernaut sped into Kuwait, who came to its rescue? Our veterans.

When the Baltic region was in disarray and the genocide of Muslims was occurring, who, again, came to the rescue? Our veterans.

When the Taliban, a ruthless, totalitarian regime that harbored terrorists, killed thousands and enslaved a nation, most remarkably its women, was gaining momentum, who came to Afghanistan’s rescue? Our veterans.

The history books will not be written for some time on Iraq, or the Middle East for that matter, but our veterans will have served honorably.

Let’s hope by next year that the editorial writer can take a fresh look at the freedoms he enjoys and at the sacrifices of so many courageous men and women, our veterans, who deserved more than 111 words.
