OES meeting

NORWAY – Oxford Chapter 168, OES, will hold the annual Christmas meeting Thursday, Dec. 1, at the Masonic Temple. A 6:30 p.m. supper will precede the 7:30 meeting followed by a short Christmas tableau. There will be no gift exchange. Members are asked to bring nonperishable food for a local food bank.

All Eastern Star members are welcome.

Society program

OXFORD – The Oxford Historical Society will hold the combined November/December meeting at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at the Kay House meeting room, 73 Pleasant St. Meetings will recess until March.

Members are asked to bring an unwrapped child’s gift to contribute to the Santa Visits Oxford Committee. Kathy Moulton Weeks will entertain with Christmas songs and stories of her visit to Afghanistan.

Refreshments will be served and all are welcome.

Fair and tea

BETHEL – The annual Christmas Fair and Tea will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at the West Parish Congregational Church, Church Street. The event will feature a traditional tea served by the fire, crafts, knitted items, baked goods, fair traded coffee and chocolate, greens and a cookie walk.

Poetry readings

WOODSTOCK – Representatives from the Mountain Poets Society will present original poetry at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, at the Whitman Memorial Library, weather permitting. Readers will be Lisa Moore, John Governale, Rocky Graham, Siiri Cressey and Rob Knoll.

The programs are open to the public free and light refreshments are served. There will be no program in January or February due to the uncertainty of the weather. Contact Marta Clements at 674-2143 or the library at 665-2505 for information.

Bridge results

NORWAY – The Oxford Hills Bridge Club met Nov. 25 at Fare Share, Main Street. A two-table Howell game was played. Finishing first were Sally Johnston and Pat Schlegel; second, Nancy Farmer and Mike Newsom; third, Marta and Bruce Clements.
