SUMNER – Five SAD 39 students and a driver escaped injury Monday morning when a school bus spun off an icy road and struck a tree.

The bus was traveling on Greenwoods Road en route to school, said Sgt. Timothy Holland of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office.

“It basically went into a spin, went off the road and struck an apple tree,” Holland said. “The roads were icy.”

No one was injured. The students were elementary and high school students ranging in age from 7 to 16, Holland said.

Holland said the bus driver was traveling “not very fast.”

The bus had to be towed from the scene. Another school bus arrived at the scene and took the students to school.
