TORONTO (AP) – Jason Terry hit a running layup at the buzzer, leading the Dallas Mavericks over the Toronto Raptors 93-91 Monday night.

With 2 seconds left on the clock, Marquis Daniels inbounded to Terry, who ran into the lane and tossed a light shot over the arms of Chris Bosh as time expired.

Terry had 26 points for the Mavericks in their first game without the injured Josh Howard, who sprained his right ankle on Saturday against Memphis.

Dirk Nowitzki had 29 points – 13 in the fourth quarter – and 11 rebounds to help Dallas win its fourth straight road game and beat the Raptors for the fourth straight time. Devin Harris scored 16 points and Erick Dampier chipped in 11 rebounds.

Bosh had 26 points and 10 rebounds to lead league-worst Toronto, which lost its fifth straight and dropped to 1-14. Mike James scored 22 points and Matt Bonner added 11.

Nowitzki, who made just one of his first eight shots, hit two 3-pointers in the final 2 minutes. His first came with 1:42 left to cut Toronto’s lead to 89-86. After the Raptors turned it over, Nowitzki hit another to tie the score at 89 with 53.6 seconds left.

Toronto came right back as Matt Bonner had an open look from the arc, but missed and Nowitzki eventually grabbed the loose ball. The Mavs stormed down the floor, found Nowitzki close to the basket, who put up a light shot for what appeared to be the winning basket with 18.4 seconds left.

However, Bonner put up a long jumper from the corner to tie it a 91 with 2 seconds left. Raptors coach Sam Mitchell had a brief argument with the officials that it should have been a 3, but replays clearly showed Bonner’s foot touching the line.

James sparked the Raptors in the final minutes, passing to Morris Peterson on a nice alley-oop to tie the game at 80 with 4:58 remainig. Terry then hit a 3 to regain the lead for Dallas, but James’ layup cut Dallas’ lead to one 30 seconds later. James then hit a 3 from the corner to give Toronto a 85-83 lead with 3:31 to play.

After Nowitzki missed a long jumper, Jose Calderon scored on an under-the-basket layup to make it 89-83 -Toronto’s biggest lead of the game.

The Raptors, trying to shake off a horrible West Coast swing in which they lost all four games, led 46-44 at halftime, thanks to 15 points from Bosh.

Raptors veteran Jalen Rose, who has struggled this season and is coming off a five-point performance in a loss in Golden State on Saturday, was removed from the starting lineup and didn’t enter the game until 6:52 into the first quarter. He finished with seven points and was on the bench for most of the fourth quarter.

Notes: The Mavs signed free-agent swingman Adrian Griffin on Monday. Griffin, who played for Dallas during 2001-03 was with the Chicago Bulls last season. Griffin was active Monday night, but did not play. … Josh Howard, who was injured on Saturday against Memphis, had an MRI that revealed his moderately sprained right ankle.
