Kid’s Night Out

WILTON – A Kid’s Night Out/Parents Night Off will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, at Academy Hill School. The event is for children in the Wilton Cushing School and Academy Hill School, grades kindergarten through six.

The evening will include gym games, movies, board games and more for $5 a child.

It is sponsored by the Academy Hill fifth and sixth grade Girl Talk Program.

Candle lighting

FARMINGTON – A candle for love will be lit during worship at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, at Henderson Memorial Baptist Church, Academy Street. Sunday school for all ages begins at 9 a.m. and the service is followed by a time for fellowship.

Financial aid

JAY – A financial aid information presentation for the parents of Jay High School seniors will be given at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14, at Jay High School Library. Ron Milliken, director of financial aid at the University of Maine at Farmington, will present information on the application process, types and sources of financial aid and will answer questions. Scout dinner

FARMINGTON – Sandy River Unit will provide a dinner for all registered Girl Scout troop leaders and assistance leaders prior to this year’s annual cookie training. The dinner will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, in Dining Hall C, University of Maine at Farmington.

A representative from each troop is requested to attend the training to pick up troop materials for the sales. An RSVP is a must for those wishing to attend the dinner; call Chris Deon at 778-3634.

Parents of registered Girl Scouts who are not affiliated with a troop are invited to attend the training which will begin at 7 p.m.

Snow date will be 6:30 p.m. Jan. 4 in UMF Dining Hall A. There will be no dinner.

Support group

FARMINGTON – Parents are welcome to take part in the Franklin County Children’s Task Force new parent education and support group starting Jan. 9.

It is a 12-week program open to men and women who are parenting with a focus on the targeted needs of those participating.

Topics will include appropriate discipline techniques, empathy, understanding a child’s feelings and emotions and parental needs.

The classes are free and will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays at Trinity United Methodist Church, Farmington Falls Road. Child care will be provided.

College planning

WILTON – A free college-planning workshop for adults considering college will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, at the Wilton Career Center, 865 Route 2E. The workshop, sponsored by the Maine Educational Opportunity Center, provides support services to help students from low income and working families enter college.

Fathers program

FARMINGTON – The Franklin County Children’s Task Force’s Nurturing Fathers Program will begin on Jan. 9. The program is for dads, expectant dads, step-dads, divorced dads and granddads.

The program will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays at Trinity United Methodist Church, Farmington Falls Road. It is a free program and child care is available. To register, call 778-6960 or 1-888-429-6960.
