BETHEL – Five venues of entertainment will be among the offerings at the eighth annual New Year’s Bethel sponsored by the Bethel Historical Society – a chem-free, family event on New Year’s Eve.

For children and the “young at heart” there will be Fred Garbo’s inflatable props. Ti Acadie will return to provide contra dancing, waltzes, polkas and contemporary favorites. Three Wheel Drive will provide a blend of original and contemporary folk and folk/jazz tunes.

Joe Perham will add his hearty Maine humor. Finally, the State Street Jazz Band will provide New Orleans jazz, including hymns, spirituals, parade tunes and popular songs.

A dragon parade at 6 p.m. for children will kick off the event, which will also include horse-drawn wagon rides, refreshments, marshmallow roasting at the bonfire on the town common, fireworks and a community bell ringing at the stroke of midnight at the town clock.

Advance tickets will be $10 for adults and $8 for ages 6 to 18 available at the Bethel Historical Society shop, Bethel area Chamber of Commerce, the Bethel Citizen and Maine Line Products in Locke Mills.

At the door, the tickets will be $12 for adults; $10 ages 6 to 18; ages 5 and under, free. More information can be obtained by calling the society office at 824-2908 or 1-800-824-2910 or visiting the Web at www.bethelhistorical.org.

Sponsors are still being sought. All contributions are deductible and special recognition will be given sponsors at the venues and in the society’s quarterly.
