DALLAS – Kobe Bryant swished a shot with 34.9 seconds left that was spectacular even by his standards – about a 30-footer falling away with a hand in his face and the shot clock expiring – to send the Los Angeles Lakers past the Dallas Mavericks 109-106.

Bryant scored 43 points, including a 3-pointer that tied it at 97 and his amazing 3 that put the Lakers ahead 104-102.

DeSagana Diop had a chance to tie it for Dallas after that, but missed his second foul shot. Los Angeles stretched the lead to four on a free throw by Bryant and a pair by Luke Walton, who had rebounded Bryant’s missed second free throw.

A 3-pointer by Devin Harris got the Mavericks back within one with 8.5 seconds left, but Smush Parker made two free throws to give the Lakers the winning margin. Dallas’ Jason Terry missed a 3 at the buzzer and Lamar Odom knocked away the rebound. His follow-through conked Dirk Nowitzki in the face, leaving the Mavericks forward on the ground as time expired.

Nowitzki had 27 points and 15 rebounds, but the Mavericks ended a five-game winning streak. Marquis Daniels scored 23, Terry had 20 and Harris 19.

Bryant was 15-of-33 and 3-of-9 on 3-pointers. He scored 27 in the first half, then went 2-of-10 in the third quarter, with three of his misses and a turnover coming during a 10-0 run that put Dallas in control. He opened the fourth on the bench, for his first break of the game, then finished strong.

Bryant was involved in two other spectacular plays – a reverse layup in which he blew past Nowitzki on the baseline, twisted sideways in the air, reached out to the opposite side of the rim and spun the ball in off the backboard; and a dunk attempt in which he drove by four flat-footed Mavs until being cleanly rejected at the rim by seldom-used center D.J. Mbenga.

Kwame Brown was 6-of-6 for 12 points and Odom had 15 points and 11 rebounds. Chris Mihm scored 10.
