An elderly Sumner woman injured in a two-vehicle crash in Turner Sunday morning continued to be listed in critical condition Tuesday afternoon.

Louise Kangas, 68, is a patient at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. The accident took the life of her husband, Arthur Kangas, 70.

Louise Kangas was driving a Jeep Liberty north on Route 4 when she attempted to make a left turn across two lanes of traffic into the parking area of the Chickadee Restaurant.

A southbound Toyota Tundra pickup driven by Robert Carrigg, 45, of Massachusetts, wasn’t able to avoid the turning SUV and slammed into the passenger-side door.

Carrigg’s truck rolled onto the driver’s side in the middle of the highway. He was treated at the scene for facial lacerations but not hospitalized.

Emergency personnel declared Arthur Kangas dead at the scene.
