LEWISTON – The YWCA of Central Maine will offer indoor soccer in a women-only environment from 6 to 7 p.m. beginning Monday, Dec. 19. The program is free to members of the YWCA and $6 to nonmembers. Players can stay for the co-ed program from 7 to 9 p.m. at no additional cost.

The program will be run by Butch Dow, who has many years of coaching experience with local high schools.

“After seeing the success of our co-ed program we decided to offer a women-only opportunity. Some teens and women feel a little intimidated playing with the guys. We hope that adding this opportunity will provide a supportive atmosphere for the women who want to play,” said Dow.

The program will take place on Mondays in the Wade Center, YWCA of Central Maine, 130 East Ave. Preregistration is not necessary. Attendees need some soccer skill in order to participate. Teams will be formed each evening with those who attend.

“Butch has coached girls soccer teams for a long while, and does a great job working with players to build their confidence,” said Anne Craigs, YWCA executive director. “We are pleased to be able to offer this program for the women in our community who want to play soccer, but have had no opportunity.”
