The property re-evaluation in Auburn is a very scary affair. It is even more scary after I found out that the city will have “rolling evaluations” each year. Evaluations will be updated by a computer program that could not get it right to start with.
I started out with a increase of almost $100,000 in value. The assessing office refused to meet with me because I would not let them in my house.
I sent the assessors’ office a letter and explained that I had an evaluation done in February 2004 that is $31,900 lower than the city’s assessment.
I received a letter back from the assessors and my valuation has dropped $3,203 since I received the first letter. But there is a $500 error on the latest evaluation in the math. And now, it seems I have a basement garage.
Something is radically wrong, and it needs to be corrected.
