OXFORD – An elementary school in Biloxi, Miss., will receive about $10,000 from students in this region, as well as boxes of school supplies donated by community members.

On Tuesday, several high school seniors packed up the pencils, book bags, notebooks and other donated school supplies to ship to Nichols Elementary School.

SAD 17 Superintendent Mark Eastman said the Biloxi elementary school has about 400 students. After the flood, the school building had a 7-foot high waterline on the walls.

He said every school helped raise the $10,000 in different ways, from walk-a-thons to auctions.

The fund-raising at Guy Rowe Elementary School “was really neat,” Eastman said Tuesday. “They made some plates and auctioned them off at family night.”

Eastman held up a drawing, to be sent as well, made by a young anonymous student with the headline, “We are all glad to help you.”
