PARIS – A Paris man was indicted this week by an Oxford County grand jury on a charge of possessing child pornography.

Ronald K. Parsons Jr., 44, was indicted on one count of a Class C felony charge of possession of sexually explicit materials, according to the grand jury indictment.

Parsons was arrested in early November after police searched his home and said they found child pornography.

Paris Police Chief David Verrier said last month that the U.S. Postal Inspection Service had conducted an investigation of Parsons and obtained a search warrant to make a sweep of his Main Street home with the support of Paris and state police.

It is illegal to send child pornography through the U.S. postal system.

Verrier said child pornography was recovered from the residence, and Parsons admitted to police that he was in possession of it.

Parsons’ child, who was home at the time of the search, was taken from the residence and released to family members, who would not divulge the child’s gender but said the child was about 9 years old.

No information was available Wednesday about the current whereabouts of the child. Parsons is currently out on bail.

Parsons was arrested and convicted in 2003 for marijuana trafficking, according to Verrier.
