WATERFORD – The Waterford Library board of directors decided at a recent meeting that the library will be closed on storm days when SAD 17 schools are closed.

The library may also be closed during winter storms at the discretion of the scheduled volunteer. Patrons are advised to call ahead at 583-2050 when the weather is bad. Library hours are 2 to 6 p.m. Mondays, 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to noon Fridays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.

Looking ahead to next summer, the library trustees and volunteers are planning the annual July 4 book sale as a fundraiser. Book donations for the sale may be left at the library at any time (no textbooks or encyclopedias). If the library is closed, books may be left in the lobby.

The monthly book discussions will continue through the winter in the library. The book selected for the Wednesday, Dec. 28, meeting at 10:30 a.m. is “Friendship, Courtship, Loveship, Marriage: Stories, by Canadian Author Alice Munro.” The nine stories in the collection are set in Ontario and British Columbia, but the themes are universal.

Sarah Dunant’s “The Birth of Venus,” a tale of art, love and betrayal in 15th-century Florence, is the selection for January. The discussion is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25.
