HEBRON – Maine State Police are looking for some johns, but not the kind who frequent houses of prostitution.

They’re looking for the real thing.

According to Trooper Scott Gosselin, one or more potty-minded thieves managed to lug more than $11,000 worth of plumbing fixtures from a Hebron home Thursday or early Friday. The haul included five pedestal sinks, five toilet tanks and five toilets, he said.

The items were taken from “an old, old home” on Greenwood Mountain Road that was in the process of being razed to its studs before being refinished, Gosselin said Saturday. The fixtures, which were being stored at the house until they could be installed after the remodeling, were reported missing at 7 a.m. Friday, he said.

Gosselin, noting that a theft of such magnitude involving plumbing fixtures was highly unusual, said that the bathroom bandits may have needed to use a large rental truck to haul away the items, whose total value he estimated at $11,200. Also taken in the burglary were tools and even a gas stove insert, he said.

Unloading the items may not be easy, the trooper said, unless they are taken to a larger locale, like Boston. Another possibility would be to try to pawn them to landlords or builders looking for plumbing fixtures.
