NEW YORK (AP) – A police officer was in stable condition Sunday after a suspected drunken driver hit him – at a check point that was set up to catch intoxicated drivers.
The incident happened at about 1:30 a.m. on the Grand Central Parkway near the entrance to the Long Island Expressway.
The unidentified officer was working at the checkpoint. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital with a leg injury and was in stable condition, said Detective John Sweeney, a police spokesman.
The driver of the car was arrested. His name was not released.
