Michaud’s hours

Team openings

RUMFORD – There are still openings in an upcoming northern Oxford County towns area Community Emergency Response Team course, which will begin at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, at the Rumford Fire Station.

The nine-week course, sponsored by the Oxford County Emergency Management Agency, prepares citizen volunteers to work in support of emergency personnel in disaster situations, such as ice storms or hazardous chemical spills.

Among the topics covered are fire safety, first aid, light search and rescue, hazardous materials and disaster psychology. Although all volunteers complete the entire course, they may choose to play more limited roles in an actual emergency situation – for example, working in a shelter.

The classes will take place mostly on Wednesday evenings, with two Saturday sessions. The Rumford-based class is for northern Oxford County towns.
