AUBURN – Police found an 80-year-old woman dead in a small stream near her house late Saturday afternoon after relatives had reported her missing.

A lifelong Auburn resident, Beverly Bowie lived alone in the country on Pownal Road. Her death is not being considered suspicious, police said.

Lt. Tim Cougle said Bowie’s family contacted police on Saturday to say they hadn’t heard from her since Friday. A short search by police, game wardens and a Maine State Police dog led to Bowie’s body.

The Medical Examiner’s Office is investigating, but an autopsy is not expected.
