RUMFORD – A mid-morning fire caused an estimated $15,000 damage to a two-story home in Rumford Center. No one was hurt.
The home, located in the village along Route 2, is owned by Henry M. Colby of New York, Deputy Fire Chief Ben Byam said. The occupants, Elizabeth and Daniel Bumby, were in the process of buying the property. One teenager was home at the time of the fire and escaped without injury.
Byam said the call came in at 9:43 a.m. Monday. Firefighters and engines from Rumford, Mexico, Dixfield, Peru and Andover responded. He said the scene was cleared in about an hour.
He said the cause was determined as electrical, after an investigation by Lt. Keith Bickford.
Byam said the fire apparently began in an upstairs bedroom. The fire was contained to the room and the damage was primarily caused to that bedroom and a hallway. The majority of damage was caused by smoke to the contents of the home.
He said Colby has house insurance.
