PITTSBURG, N.H. (AP) – A snowmobiler riding on Lake Francis had a brush with some thin ice.

Wayne Millette’s snowmobile broke through the ice at about 5 p.m. Sunday at an inlet where the Connecticut River comes into the lake. He was about 20 feet from shore and it was below zero.

Millette, 45, of Cumberland, R.I., was in about 3 feet of water and was able to wade to shore. He wasn’t hurt. He had been heading toward some camp lights several hundred feet away.

Chris Egan of the Fish and Game Department said the rest of the lake is thick enough to support a snowmobile, but the inlet area changes from day to day.
