BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) – The University of Vermont’s newest dormitory is open for business.

Students began moving into the 400-bed, first phase of the $60.6 million student housing facility on Saturday. The other 400-bed section is due to be completed in August.

The complex includes singles, lofts, doubles and suites, as well as administrative offices, recreation rooms and seminar space.

The facility, known as U. Heights, was built to house students in UVM’s Honors College, which was created in 2004 to attract top students.

Until UVM reaches its quota of 400 Honors College students to fill the 400-student complex, other freshmen and sophomores may live there, officials said.

A lottery was drawn to determine the assignment of rooms.
