FARMINGTON – The Franklin County E-911 office is reminding residents of Freeman, Madrid and Salem townships that although the roads have been named and road signs installed, the E-911 office has not yet received confirmation from the postal service for all the street numbers.

Residents of the townships should not use their RFD box numbers as street numbers. The two have no correlation and, except in the case of a coincidence, the street number will not be the same as the RFD box number.

Assignation of street numbers is governed by the Franklin County E-911 ordinance, which assigns street numbers every 50 feet, with even numbers on the left and odd numbers on the right, as the numbers ascend.

When the E-911 office receives official confirmation for the street numbers that have been submitted, letters from both the U.S. Postal Service and the Franklin County E-911 office will be sent to all property owners informing them of their new address, including the street number.

For more information or an explanation, call Debra Richards, Franklin County addressing officer, at 491-2965 or 788-3972. If there is no answer, people should leave a message, and the call will be returned as soon as possible.
