OXFORD – Oxford American Legion Auxiliary 112 members knit mittens so local children can stay warm in winter.

Everlyn Cotton, Dorothy Allen and Louise Belanger, long-time Auxiliary members, knit more than 100 pairs of mittens each year. This year they donated 320 pairs to the “Santa Comes to Oxford” program. In addition, they gave mittens to the Oxford Firemen’s Auxiliary, Oxford Snowmobile Club and local church groups.

Santa and Mrs. Claus go every year to the Post 112 Veterans Tree Lighting Ceremony. Santa and the children light the tree, then everyone has refreshments. Each child gets to talk to Santa and tell him their wish list.

Santa’s elves take a picture of each child with Santa that they receive as a gift. The Auxiliary provides a goodie bag for each child in attendance, containing a pair of mittens.
