SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) – Springfield will be getting a new museum dedicated to the city’s history thanks to a $1 million gift from a West Hartford, Conn., Rolls Royce collector who died in October.

Allen Swift, who was 102 when he died late last year, also donated his 1928 Phantom I Rolls Royce to the Springfield Museums.

The car, which was built in Springfield, will be the centerpiece of transportation collection at the new Museum of Springfield History.

The Springfield Museums, which operates art, science and history museums in the city’s downtown, will use Swift’s monetary gift to buy a nearby building that went on sale last summer.
