FRYEBURG – The Fryeburg Fish and Game Association Inc. will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, at the Fryeburg Fire Station. There was no meeting in January because of the holiday.

Subjects discussed at the December meeting held at the Fryeburg New Church included the results of the Winchester Mod. 70 rifle raffle from the Fryeburg Fair. The winner was Daniel Lavorgna of Mexico.

Association President Jim Holt announced that the association is the recipient of a $5,000 grant from the National Rifle Association that will be used for range repair and improvement.

Holt also announced that he has been offered assistance in the range project by many who use the range as well as some who have machinery to handle excavation work.

New backstops will be built down range and safety berms will be erected between the ranges. Persons interested in helping with this rebuilding task should contact Holt at 935-2625 or e-mail jimholt@adelphia.net.

Holt read a report from Warren Richardson on last fall’s hunter safety course. There were 36 graduates.

The Hunt of a Lifetime Foundation Inc., a program that provides hunts for terminally ill children, was discussed and the association voted to allocate $1,000 to the program and support any handicapped child on the hunt of their choice. The association will also support any terminally ill child who would like a spring turkey hunt. Persons wishing to make a contribution to the foundation should contact Holt.

Holt said the shooting course was canceled last spring and he would like to hear from anyone who would be interested in participating in a handgun safety course that, when completed, would enable applicants to obtain a permit to carry concealed weapons, issued by the New Hampshire and Maine sate police. The course will be taught by an NRA certified instructor. Those interested should contact Holt.

He announced the association has a Web site that explains the mission of the association and its activities at www.fryeburgfishandgame.com.

The March meeting will be a dinner at Fryeburg New Church and will feature a talk by Kirk Smith of North Conway who has hunted in Africa. Reservations should be made by calling Holt.
