RUMFORD – The Theater at Monmouth troupe will make a second visit to the River Valley area on Thursday when the actors present Shakespeare’s “Henry V.”
“This is another effort to bring the arts to Rumford,” said Town Manager Stephen Eldridge.
Last year, he helped bring the popular troupe to the area for a performance of a Shakespearean comedy, “The Merry Wives of Windsor.”
First performed in 1599, “Henry V” is one of a series of four Shakespearean plays dealing with the English power struggle between the houses of Lancaster and York.
About 10 actors from the Monmouth troupe will perform the two-act play at 7 p.m. at Mountain Valley High School.
Last week, several of the actors took their skills to Mountain Valley Middle School and High School where they led workshops for students interested in theater acting.
Tickets for Thursday’s performance are available at the Rumford Municipal Building, Red Hill Natural Foods and at the door.
The Shakespearean plays are among the cultural events planned by the town manager and others as part of the area’s economic development, somewhat based on the creative economy program advanced by the governor a couple of years ago.
Upcoming performances planned in the Municipal Building’s historic auditorium include ones by the All State Jazz Band in March and the Nordica Trio in May.
