LEWISTON – The Lisa Giguere Scholarship is accepting applications from graduating seniors at Lewiston High School, Edward Little High School and St. Dominic Regional High School who have an interest in journalism.

The scholarship is in its second year and awards up to $2,500 annually to seniors who complete the required application package and meet the following criteria:

Be a graduating senior in good standing and attending a post-secondary school in the fall of 2006.

Write a 500-word, double-spaced, essay demonstrating the candidate’s desire and conviction to further a career in writing.

Provide letters of recommendation and most recent high school transcript. Supporting documentation such as school papers or other writing samples should be included with the package.

Lisa Giguere was a dedicated journalist with the Sun Journal for 30 years. The award was created by Giguere’s husband, Ralph Tuttle, in partnership with the Costello family, publishers of the Sun Journal. In the spirit of Giguere’s quest for the truth and thirst to learn, the scholarship was designed to identify promising, questioning, young journalists and help them develop their talent.

Completed packets are due to the applicant’s high school guidance department by 5 p.m. May 1. Scholarships will be presented to recipients at a presentation ceremony at the Sun Journal.
