Class luncheon

MEXICO – Members of the Stephens High School Class of 1949 will meet for a monthly luncheon at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, at the Covered Wagon.

Network meeting

RUMFORD – A Community Networking meeting, sponsored by the River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition, is scheduled for noon Thursday, Feb. 23, in the the Community Room of Scrappers Domaine, Canal Street. Bring a lunch.

Rosie Bradley, executive director of the River Valley Growth Council and Technology Center, will speak about both organizations and the progress they have made. There will be updates on other local organizations’ community activities, including programs of the Healthy Communities.

Sharing group

RUMFORD – Widows and Widowers Sharing will meet at noon Thursday, Feb. 23, at the United Methodist Church on Linnell Street. There will be a potluck luncheon with the program to follow. Guest speaker will be Dr. Hersey and his wife, Jean. All widows and widowers are welcome.

Public luncheon

PERU – Families in Crisis Task Force will hold a public luncheon at noon Monday, Feb. 20, at the Rockemeka Grange Hall, 92 Peru Center Road. Menu will include Chinese pot pie with all the fixings. Public hearing

CANTON – The town will hold a public hearing at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at the Canton Municipal Building to discuss the Housing Assistance Grant application, Recreational Trail Grant Program and the New Village Center.

Fishing derby

ROXBURY – The Mexico Lions Club will sponsor the 27th annual Larry Mercier Ice Fishing Derby from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at Roxbury Pond. Rain date will be Sunday, Feb. 26.

There will be a $5 registration fee and people can preregister at Ellis Pond Variety in Roxbury or Jackie’s Fly Shop in Mexico. Ellis Pond Variety will be open at 5 a.m. for early registrations and will sell bait.

Prize fish will be in all categories ranging from $20 to $60 and the grand prize is $1500 to the person who produces tagged trout. All prizes will be awarded at 3 p.m. Saturday. There will also be door prizes.

Lions Club will have its lunch wagon there for hamburgs, hot dogs, coffee, hot chocolate and soda. For more information, call Roland at 562-0840 or 364-2827.
