LEWISTON – Tickets for the 2006 NESCAC women’s basketball semifinals at Bates College wil go on sale Friday at Alumni Gymnasium from 9 a.m. to noon.

Top-seed Bates will host No. 4 Williams in the first game at 2 p.m. , followed bu No. 2 Bowdoin and No. 3 Wesleyan.

Tickets for Saturday’s semifinals, which cost $5 for adults and $2 for students, will cover both semifinal games.

Doors open at noon Saturday.

Tickets for the championship game will go on sale that day at 11 a.m.

The game starts at 1 p.m.

Godsey sets meet, facility record at New Englands

MEDFORD, Mass. – Senior Keelin Godsey set a meet and facility record in the 20-pound weight throw as the Bates College women’s track team placed seventh out of 22 teams at the New England Division III indoor championships this past weekend.

The Bobcats scored 44.5 points at the meet, just behind Brandeis (48) and Keene State (47), and ahead of Springfield (44), Wesleyan (39), Colby (38.33), Southern Maine (33), and 10 other schools.

Godsey threw the weight 65 feet, 9 inches, which was two inches shy of his personal best. Godsey also captured first place in the shot put, at 45-9.

Kathleen Nugent took first place in the pentathalon. Her 3,079 points were the third best for a Bates athlete. Isabel Alexander finished eighth in the event. Kathryn Moore ran the second-fastest 3,000 meters in school history at 10:12.31.

Bates men place third at New Englands

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Bates College men’s track team placed third out of 24 teams at the New England Division III indoor championships Saturday at MIT.

The Bobcats scored 62.5 points to trail only Williams (153) and Tufts (131).

Standouts for Bates included Adam Macbeth, who placed second in the 55-meter hurdles in 7.74 seconds, and also had a season-best long jump of 21-10. Noah Gauthier placed fifth in shot put (49-7) and fourth in the 35-pound weight throw. Joel Colony finished fifth in the 200 (22.81), while Sam Thomas was third in the 600 at 1:23.23.

Bates’ 1,600 relay team of MacBeth, Colony, Sam Thomas and Matt Capone placed second in 3:23.55.
