CASCO – Two brothers were arrested and charged with multiple felonies after they allegedly assaulted a Casco man, knocking out several of his teeth, and threatened him with an ax, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.

Brian M. McDonald, 21, of Bridgton and Michael K. McDonald, 23, of Raymond were released Thursday from Cumberland County Jail in Portland after their parents posted bond. Bail had been set at $100,000 surety or 10 percent cash bail for each brother, said Capt. Don Goulet of the sheriff’s office.

The brothers were arrested Wednesday night after sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of a reported assault that took place in a residence off Rosewood Road in Casco. The victim, a 23-year-old man, was taken to Bridgton Hospital, where he was treated for injuries and released later that night.

Goulet said the victim, whose name was not released, identified his assailants. A short time after the emergency call, sheriff’s deputies and officers from the Bridgton Police Department located the brothers at Brian McDonald’s residence in Bridgton, where they were arrested and charged.

The victim “had several of his teeth knocked out,” said Goulet. “The victim knew his assailants and had invited them to his residence. It was a friendly encounter that went downhill.”

Each brother was charged with one count of aggravated assault, one count of burglary, one count of theft by unauthorized taking, and one count of terrorizing. Goulet said the brothers used an ax to terrorize the man and forced their way into a locked area that belonged to the man’s roommate.

They also took a firearm from the residence, he said.
