BUCKFIELD – Town Manager Glen Holmes was authorized by representatives from Sumner, Hartford and Buckfield to prepare documents for buying highway equipment and materials, office equipment and heating fuel.

The decision comes after the second regionalization meeting for the three towns. Holmes will be asking for information from the town clerks concerning the amount of office materials they are currently using and how much heating oil. This is the first step in having towns unite to bring costs down for the taxpayers.

Holmes was asked to write a draft letter to the Department of Transportation concerning the condition of Route 140. The letter will be sent to the towns for approval. This is a follow-up from the first regionalization meeting where each town expressed a need to have the state rebuild Route 140.

A selectman from each town was present as well as Sumner Road Commissioner Jim Keach. A member of the Hartford road committee was also present along with approximately six residents of the towns.

The next regionalization meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. March 23 at the Buckfield municipal center.
