TURNER – A benefit supper raised more than $7,000 for the family of Monica Quimby recently.

Before the supper 50 people were milling around the Boofy Quimby Memorial Center waiting for word that Nezinscot Lodge was ready to start serving the spaghetti meal. The supper was hosted by the lodge on behalf of Quimby, the Turner woman who was paralyzed in a skiing accident last month.

By 4:45 p.m. the facility was bursting at the seams as the community came out in support of the Quimby family. At 5:15 the serving line was out the door and into the parking lot. Close to 500 people attended the dinner, which raised more than $7,000 for the family.

Many also opted to take a chance at the 50/50 drawing as well as on many donated items, including a wooden bench Monica helped her father, Scott, build. Area businesses also donated products and services for a raffle.
