WOODSTOCK – Woodstock Historical Society Curator Larry Billings has announced the first floor of the museum has been reinterpreted. It has always highlighted Woodstock artifacts, now it also houses furniture.

An Empire settee, a Duncan Phyfe dining table, an art nouveau bench, an oak settee and a mahogany settee have joined the furniture from local author George Allan England’s suite of caned furniture. Upstairs, there is a collection of country furniture including Hitchcock chairs.

The museum also features a permanent art collections arranged in a gallery on the second floor along with farm equipment, tools and assorted collectibles.

There are extensive collections of antique glass, china, quilts, costumes and local mementos on the first floor. There is also a research library and a small museum store.

Billings said he bills the museum as a “historical and cultural center for the area” and “a representative New England museum” and said its offerings in the decorative arts are exceptional. It will open in June.

The society meetings are being held at the town complex. President Olive Risko will present a program at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 11, and board of trustees chairwoman Annella Burnham will in charge Saturday, April 8. Everyone is welcome.
