RANGELEY – Rangeley Public Library will host programs on professional car racing, armory and weapons, aviation and adventure and professional baseball over the next several months.

Joe Bessey and Mike Ferguson will present a program on car racing at 7 p.m. Monday, March 20, at the library.

Bessey is a former NASCAR owner/driver and successful businessman who divides his time between North Carolina and Rangeley. The Scarborough native has driven in a number of series, including Winston Cup, Busch Grand National and Craftsman Truck Series.

Ferguson is a Rangeley native who built his own business from scratch so he could stay in Rangeley. Having raced just about any machine possible, he decided to build his own race car several years ago and try his hand at the Oxford Plains Speedway. After three years of racing, Ferguson won 2005 Rookie of the Year in the late model class and made the top 10 in points in his class.

Attendees will be eligible to win a subscription for a racing magazine, and new DVDs and books on racing will be available to borrow through the library.

The program is available due to a grant through Maine Reads and support form the Liz and Tony Schulte family.

The Higgins Armory Museum of Worcester, Mass., will bring an outreach program about armor and weapons at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 29. A costumed interpreter with reproduction arms and armor will provide a one-hour presentation.

The program affords the audience a chance to handle armor and participate in hands-on demonstrations. Anyone attending may win a prize related to the topic, plus new media will be available for check-out.

All programs are free and open to the public.
