NORWAY – The Western Maine Women’s Network meeting will feature guest speakers Cathy Heffernan and Jane Mills of Blue Moon Midwives from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, at Blue Moon Midwives, 176 Main St.

Heffernan and Mills are co-founders of Blue Moon Midwives, which recently opened. They have more than 30 years of combined experience and offer health care for women through all phases of life.

Topic of the meeting will be “Women’s Health: Exploring Herbal Alternatives for Periomenopause and Menopause.” To register or for more information about the Maine Women’s Network, visit the Web site www.WMWN.org.

Practicing midwifery for more than 24 years, Heffernan began by apprenticing and doing home births for 17 years. She worked as an obstetrical nurse at Wentworth-Douglas Hospital for two years, then became a certified nurse-midwife in 1996.

She worked for six years at the Rumford Community Hospital, one year at Portsmouth Regional Hospital and two years at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

Mills is from England, where she trained in nursing and midwifery more than 20 years ago. After moving to Maine, she attended the University of Southern Maine, graduating in 1995 with a bachelor of science in nursing.

She graduated from Columbia University and North Central Bronx Hospital as a nurse-midwife in 1996.

She has a master of science in nurse-midwifery from State University of New York, Stony Brook. Mills has 10 years of experience as a labor and delivery nurse and a another eight years of experience as a certified nurse-midwife at Western Maine Health.

The Western Maine Women’s Network serves as a resource for women as they build professional and personal partnerships. The network creates a professional environment for all women to become more effective in the business world through networking, education and connections with community resources.
