GORHAM -The Blue team nipped the White Team 3-2 in overtime in the Maine Girls Ice Hockey Association All-Star Game waged Sunday at the University of Southern Maine.

Senior Hanna Landis of Cape Elizabeth scored the game-winner on a pass from her twin sister Sarah Landis.

The contest was scoreless for the first two periods thanks to stellar performances by goalies Sarah Mills of Scarborough and Freshman Kate Avery of Lewiston for the Blue squad, and Sophomore Kate Otley of Greely, and Junior Danielle Smith of Winslow, for the White team.

Ashley Potvin of Biddeford gave Blue a 1-0 lead early in the third period. Mollie Fitzpatrick of Cheverus received an assist. White tied it a short time later on a goal by Nicole Fuller of Portland on a pass from Rachel Hallett of Falmouth.

The White team took a 2-1 lead as Julia Knowles of Brunswick converted a nifty pass from Mary Vaughn, also of Brunswick. Candace Thompson of Fryeburg Academy also assisted on the play.

Blue got even a bit later when Junior Erica VanDerWerf of St. Dom’s lit the lamp on a pass from St. Dom’s teammate Junior Brittane Michaud. Jessi Hitchcock of Leavitt also earned an assist.

Then came the game-winner in the extra session. Alicia Downing of Deering was also credited with an assist on that play.

A team of MGIHA all-stars will be selected to play in a couple of weeks against the New Hampshire all-stars in Laconia, N.H. Last year, NH won, 3-2

Maranacook wins, ties

READFIELD – The Maranacook EJP Mites won one and tied one in recent youth hockey action.

Cody Stockford netted 2 goals as Maranacook edged Kennebec State Credit Union 4-3. Ryan Lutrykowski and Zach Phinney also lit the lamp. Paul Martha was credited with 2 assists. Riley Boivin scored 2 goals for Kennebec. Jacob Glazier notched the other. Assists went to Glazier (2) and Boivin. Tom Small was the winning goalie.

Maranacook EJP and Gardiner EJP skated to a 3-3 tie. Martha, Zach Godbout and Tom Small potted the goals. Jack Vickerson tended net. Gardiner scorers were Ryan Kelley, Tristen Hebert and Reid Cotnoir. Donovan Farris donned the pads.
