SABATTUS – There will be a special town meeting Wednesday night with Sabattus Central School sixth-graders in the roles of officers and department heads.
The mock government project will include presenting budget proposals for the 2006-07 fiscal year. The meeting will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m., and refreshments will be served after. The public is invited.
In other business, selectmen were asked by the Parent-Teacher Association on Tuesday night about paying for the bus-loop landscaping at the school.
PTA representative Rachel Charette said landscaping and removing trees and stumps were in the budget when the school was being built.
“But as you know, that and a lot of other items were cut from the budget,” she said. “Many have showed an interest in planting flower gardens, but quotes to do the landscaping have been high.”
Board members said they thought that although the school is town property the problem is the responsibility of the School Committee.
Selectman William Henshaw said that is why the school has a budget. “Now they want to flip the bill on us,” he said. “Bring it back to the school board,” he advised Charette.
Selectmen noted that $6,000 for plowing this year was not used and possibly that money could pay for landscaping.
