Dear Sun Spots: Thank you for all the help you have given us in letting people know about our hospice volunteer classes. The people we have recruited as volunteers are absolutely wonderful! And many of them tell us that they learned about the classes by reading Sun Spots. Is it possible to help us again?

Our needs for hospice and bereavement volunteers have increased so tremendously that we are offering three more 27-hour classes this spring. They will be held in Lewiston, South Paris and Wilton.

In Lewiston, a 27-hour hospice volunteer training course will be held Tuesday and Thursday evenings, beginning April 4 and ending May 2.

In Wilton, a training course for bereavement volunteers will begin on Thursday evening, April 27. Meeting two times each week, the course will provide 15 hours of basic training for all bereavement volunteers and will guide people in providing one-on-one bereavement support. An additional 12 hours will follow for those interested in co-facilitating grief support groups.

In South Paris, a 27-hour hospice volunteer training course will be held Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, beginning on May 23 and ending June 20.

Hospice Volunteers help support terminally ill patients and their families at home, in long-term care facilities, and at the new AHCH Hospice House in Auburn. Bereavement volunteers provide special support to family members or caregivers in the year after the death of a hospice patient. Volunteers are valued members of a team and are matched with patients in or near their communities. We ask for a time commitment of two to four hours each week.
