LISBON FALLS – Lisbon Adult Education has openings in classes starting in April and May.

An oil painting class will start on Wednesday, April 5. The class will run for eight weeks, meeting from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The class is intended for all levels of ability. Drawing skills are not necessary.

A basic home repair workshop for women will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, April 13. The class will include how to hang pictures and mirrors properly, how to measure and put up blinds and shades, how to determine how much paint or wallpaper to buy and helpful hints for spackling and weather stripping.

A hunter safety class will start on Tuesday, April 11. The class will meet for five evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. Register by calling 353-3037.

An intermediate American Sign Language class will start on Monday, April 10. A course on “Identity Theft and How to Fight Back” will be held on Monday, April 24. There are two sessions scheduled, one at 3 p.m. and one at 6 p.m.

A family craft workshop for children ages 4 though 12 will be held on Wednesday, April 26. The children will make May Baskets and Mother’s Day crafts.

A pet first aid class will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday April 26. The class will teach skills needed to care for injured cats and dogs. Participants will receive a first aid kit for pets.

A parenting workshop taught by Advocates for Children called “Bully Proofing Your Child” will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 11.

A book club, Readers Anonymous, meets at Lisbon Adult Education on the second Wednesday of each month. Newcomers are welcome. The book selection for April 12 is “Gilead” by Marilynn Robinson. The selection for May 10 is “The Frailty Myth” by Colette Dowling.

Gardening classes will include “Vermaculture and Composting,” which will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, May 8. A “Kitchen Herb Gardening Basics” class will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 11.

A scented geranium class will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 18. A Family Wildflower Walk will take place on Sunday, May 21. The walk will be led by Park Ranger Verla Brooks. The walk is free and open to all. Meet at the entrance to the park at 3 p.m.

General Educational Development testing is offered by Lisbon Adult Education. The first step is to attend an orientation session. Two sessions are scheduled each Thursday at 2:30 and 6:30 p.m. The orientation lasts about an hour. Walk-ins are welcome.

Testing is offered on Mondays from 2:30 to 5 p.m. and from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesdays from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and Wednesdays from 2:30 to 5 p.m. A GED prep class is offered on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
