GILFORD, N.H. (AP) – A man was arrested on charges of drunken boating after his canoe capsized on Lake Winnipesaukee.

The New Hampshire Marine Patrol says Douglas Prefontaine, 35, of Gilford, was canoeing on Glendale Bay with a friend on Sunday morning when his canoe got swamped in choppy water and capsized.

Prefontaine and Anthony Linkkila, 26, of Laconia, swam to Locke Island, where they were rescued and taken back to the Gilford town docks.

Linkkila was treated for exposure and possible hypothermia at Lakes Region General Hospital, then released. Prefontaine was arrested on a charge of boating while intoxicated.
