MECHANIC FALLS – Third-graders at Elm Street School worked with children’s author Lynn Plourde for three days recently.

Plourde read her book, “Pigs in the Mud,” to both third grade classes and asked the children to enact the story as she read. She also read “Wild Child” and had the entire class participate.

Plourde worked individiually with the classes and shared her stategies and graphic organizers to help the children develop a “3P” story. The “3P” plan involves choosing a character or subject, a problem (something missing), then follow a pattern to get to the promise at the end of the story.

In the plan, the character tries to solve the problem and the first attempt fails, tries again and fails and the third attempt sees the problem solved at the end of the story.
