STANDISH – St. Joseph’s topped Husson in a doubleheader Thursday, winning 1-0 and 7-4.

In Game 1, the Monks (13-5) lone run scored on a single by Luke Enman in the bottom of the sixth. Jack Hughes pitched a solid seven innings, striking out nine batters. Husson (12-8) was led by Jeff Miller, the only repeat hitter in the contest, with a double and a single.

Andrew Dvilinsky had three hits and two RBIs in the nightcap, while Chris Doughty had two hits, two runs, and two RBIs. Charlie Furbush recorded the win for St. Joe’s, while Sam Tupper notched the save, striking out two of three batters in the seventh inning to close out the game. Justin Spencer hit a two-run homer for Husson.

Thomas 10, Colby 6

WATERVILLE – Thomas College scored seven runs in the fifth inning en route to a 10-6 victory over Colby.

Jordan McDonald led the Terriers (6-9) with four hits and two runs scored. Tim Mercier and Brandon Connors both had three hits for Thomas.

Southern Maine 12, Bridgewater State 2

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The University of Southern Maine erupted for eight runs in the seventh inning for a 12-2 victory over Bridgewater State.

USM (8-7) belted three home runs, including a solo shot by Max Arsenault and Nick Vardaro, and a three-run homer by Eddie Skeffington in the big eight-run seventh.

Arsenault went 2-for-4 on the day with a double and two RBIs. Ryan Pike chipped in with three hits. Adam Ross earned the win, striking out four.

Softball
UNE 1, Colby 0

BIDDEFORD – Sarah Hamel and Jess Silvio combined to limit Colby to five hits, as the University of New England scored the only run of the game in the third inning for a 1-0 victory.

Bowdoin sweeps UMF

BRUNSWICK – Megan Rodgers capped a five-hit afternoon with a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Bowdoin softball team to a sweep of Maine-Farmington, 4-1 and 4-2.

Bowdoin used a three-run third inning to take control of the opener, as a two-out triple by Danielle Chagnon was followed by two straight doubles by Rodgers and Sarah Stern. Karen Reni was solid on mound for Bowdoin (9-11) allowing one earned run and striking out five. Lauren Stacey was tagged with the loss, allowing three earned runs in 2.2 innings of work.

Lauren Overlock and Marry Berry each had three hits for UMF (7-3) in Game 2.

USM sweep St. Joseph’s

GORHAM – Katie Mainville threw her fourth career no-hitter and second of the season to lead Southern Maine to a sweep of St. Joseph’s.

Mainville racked up 14 strikeouts and retired 18 consecutive batters after giving up a second inning walk en route to the 2-0 triumph in the first game. In game two, Bree Loon notched her fifth win of the season, scattering four hits and fanning eight batters for a 3-0 win.

Men’s lacrosse
Plymouth State 8, Southern Maine 3

GORHAM – Adam Krinsky dished out five assists to lead Plymouth State to an 8-3 victory over Southern Maine in men’s lacrosse.

Although USM held a 2-1 after one quarter, the Panthers struck for a pair of goals 43 seconds apart early in the second to take command. Matt Metraw led the Panther (3-5) goal scoring with three.

For the Huskies (0-4), Garett Shaw, Mark Bubier, and Jeff Donovan each scored.

Women’s lacrosse
Plymouth State 18, Southern Maine 4

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Bethany Brown and Nicole Evans combined for eight goals and eight assists Thursday afternoon as Plymouth State dominated Southern Maine 18-4 win in women’s lacrosse.

Although USM got on the board 17 seconds into the game, PSU (4-3) scored the next seven goals, and went on to lead 12-3 at halftime.

Ashley Dyer led the Huskies (1-6) with two goals and an assist, while Amanda Loomise and Sharon Trent added one goal each.
