CONCORD, N.H. (AP) – A citizen of Ghana has been indicted on federal passport fraud charges.

The U.S. Attorney’s office said Joseph Harry Amegah, 44, tried to obtain an American passport by stating on his application that he was born in Massachusetts. He also is accused of submitting a fake birth certificate to support his claim.

Amegah lives in North Grafton, Mass. He was indicted in New Hampshire because the passport application was sent to the National Passport Center in Portsmouth.

The charges carry a 3-10 year prison term.
