April 1, 12:07 p.m. – A 1999 Subaru Forester SUV, driven by Anne Meslang, 24, of Norfolk, Va., crashed into a utility pole, dropping it and wires across Route 2 at Rumford Point. The police report states that Meslang claimed she was avoiding an animal, lost control, and struck the pole.

She was taken to Rumford Hospital by Med-Care Ambulance, but refused treatment. She was later given a summons and charged with operating under the influence refusal, and is to be arraigned on June 6 in Rumford District Court.

The SUV was totaled. Damage to the Central Maine Power Co. pole and utilities’ resources was estimated at $6,500. Route 2 was shut down for six hours.
