AUBURN – Auburn Recreation announces that T-Ball registration is open until Friday, April 21.

T-Ball is baseball for 5, 6 and 7-year-olds with a specific emphasis on teaching basic skills. Teams will consist of 10 to 12 players. Everyone plays in the field and everyone is in the batting order. Batters hit the ball off a tee instead of facing live pitching, so there are no walks or strikeouts.

Practices will be held twice a week during the 10-week season, running from April 24 to June 24. The first practices will be mini-clinics, during which volunteer coaches and department staff will intrduce elements of the game, including hitting, baserunning, fielding and throwing.

Games will be played Saturdays beginning in May. Players must provide their own gloves. All players will receive team t-shirts and hats.

Coaches are trained and certified through the National Youth Sports Coaches Association before the season begins. Two coaches are needed per team. Interested volunteers are asked to call and speak to the Rec Department staff at 784-0191. Parents may register children in-person at Hasty Community Center during regular business hours until April 21, or by mailing a registration and payment in time to arrive by that day to Auburn Parks & Recreation, 48 Pettengill Park, Auburn, ME 04210.

The fee is $30 per resident and $45 for non-residents. Checks are payable to Auburn Parks & Recreation Department.
