LEWISTON – Doris Adrienne Dowden, 72, of Lewiston passed away suddenly in her home on Wednesday, April 12, with her son at her side.

She was born in Lewiston on Aug. 2, 1933, the daughter of Leo and Aline (Dube) Bernier.

She was a loving wife, mother and full-time homemaker. She also worked at various establishments throughout Lewiston including St. Mary’s cafeteria, Bonanza Steakhouse and Heartland Restaurant where she thoroughly enjoyed her co-workers and meeting new people.

She spent many years traveling throughout the country with her husband, Fredrick while he served in the Navy. After his retirement from the service, they made their home first in Bloomfield, Ind. (Fred’s home), before settling down in Lewiston, where she could be close to her family and loved ones. She loved living in Maine.

She leaves a brother, Robert Bernier of Lewiston; a son, James Dowden of Lewiston; a daughter, Alene Pettus and her husband, Jonathan, of Sarasota, Fla.; a granddaughter, Amber Grogan of Manchester, N.H.; a great-grandson, Kelly Grogan of Manchester, N.H.; along with her beloved dog, Pixie.

She was predeceased by her husband, Fredrick Dowden July 11, 2001; her sister, Theresa Dube; and her brother, Donald Bernier.
