KINGSPORT, Tenn. – Laura Wilma Sylvester Arnold, R.N., 85, of Kingsport, Tenn., crossed over to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 18 at the Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

She was born in Freeport, the daughter of the late Ashley and Frances Sylvester. She spent her childhood in Auburn and graduated from Edward Little High School in 1937, and Maine Eye and Ear Infirmary in Portland as a registered nurse.

She married Joseph Arnold in 1942, and moved to Galion, Ohio shortly thereafter. They later moved to Kingsport, Tenn., where she spent the last 36 years.

She enjoyed her cottage by the lake, where she loved to fish. She also enjoyed cooking and canning for her family and friends.

She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Joseph F. Arnold; a daughter, Cheryl Taylor and a son, James Arnold, both of Kingsport, Tenn.; a sister, Marian Sylvester of Durham; two brothers, Raymond and his wife, Barbara Sylvester of New Gloucester and Ralph Sylvester of Auburn; nine grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents; and a great-grandson.
